“The very moment I wake up is always a prayer. It’s always an expression of gratitude first of all, to be alive, to have another chance to live that day,” revealed Novak Djokovic when talking about his daily routine. In a recent conversation with digital creator and podcaster Ben Johnson, the tennis ace opened up about his intense wellness routine.
After meditating and expressing gratitude, he said that he hydrates. “I would take lukewarm water, lemon and salt, and I would take my hydration formula to replenish all the electrocyte and minerals and get myself going.”
Practicing gratitude can have a profound impact on your overall well-being and outlook. Take a few moments each morning to express gratitude for the good things in your life, whether it’s your health, loved ones, or even a delicious cup of coffee. Next, the Wimbledon champion shared that he loves to have fruits. A smoothie or juice to get some vitamin or multivitamin inside. His go-to smoothie involves mixed berries and dates. “I love dates, I can have dates all day,” he shared, adding that maybe he would like to add hemp seeds or different seeds and superfoods such as maca powder to the smoothie. “Even blue spirulina, which does not taste great – it’s disgusting but disguised in the smoothie,” he revealed, further mentioning that he has a green powder blend that includes all sorts of seaweeds.

Dietician Anushree Sharma told indianexpress.com that fruits are rich in fibre, antioxidants, polyphenols, vitamins, and minerals. They are a naturally sweet alternative to desserts, appealing to those with a sweet tooth. Fibre provides satiety and a sense of fullness, while vitamins act as antioxidants and support the immune system.
In fact, dates are particularly effective for athletes, as they provide natural energy boosts due to their significant carbohydrate content. For this reason, various sportsmen may consume these dates as a form of “pre-workout”.
“This is due to the presence of natural sugars like glucose, sucrose, and fructose (which also promote levels of healthy blood sugar). This natural sweetness means that they can even be consumed as an ingredient in desserts, health shakes, or sweets in general. Even the potassium and magnesium content controls blood pressure and hence, makes them good for the heart as well,” explained the expert.

Djokovic also stays away from caffeine. “I don’t take coffee. I would maybe drink a green tea once in a while. And then I would have to go practice tennis. In case I don’t have to practice tennis or have an obligation to train, I still wanna be active and still wanna be outdoors, ideally for my wellness,” he shared.
The tennis champion loves swimming in the sea, and biking, hiking, running, jogging. “I like to play other sports like football and basketball, padel or ping pong. Once I’m done with the active part of the day, when comes the chilling part. I would possibly take a sauna or an ice bath before unwinding for the day,” he concluded.
