41-year-old love letter – an emotional handwritten note from a young man to his future father-in-law, written entirely in Chhattisgarhi, has taken Reddit by storm. Shared by user Rich-Arrival-1427, the letter was penned in 1984 by their father, a Delhi-based government employee deeply in love and determined to win approval for marriage.
What makes this letter moving isn’t just its age, but the effort behind it. The writer learned Chhattisgarhi – his partner’s mother tongue – just to express his respect and sincerity to her family. “My dad learnt Chhattisgarhi just to impress my grandfather,” the user wrote. “After six years of relationship and three years of convincing their families, they finally married, and celebrated 40 years of marriage this year.”
The man spoke of his stable job, his respectable background, and promised that his beloved “would never face sorrow in their life together.” One line in particular stood out to readers: “Your answer will decide the direction of my life.”
