Chinese passenger has meltdown over overweight luggage at Italy airport, video goes viral

The incident took place at the boarding counter on June 8, according to Viral Press. Airport staff checked the passenger’s carry-on suitcase and informed her that it exceeded the allowed weight limit. She was asked to either pay an additional fee or remove some items from her bag.

The request triggered a surprising reaction. In a viral video, the woman can be seen collapsing to the floor, wailing, and flailing her arms and legs in a full-blown tantrum reminiscent of a toddler. She rolled on the ground, hitting the floor with her hands and feet as stunned bystanders looked on.

Airport authorities attempted to console the visibly distressed traveller, but she remained inconsolable. Ultimately, she was put on a different flight after she calmed down.

The video, initially shared by Viral Press, was later reposted by the Daily Mail on Instagram (@dailymail).

The video attracted thousands of reactions online, ranging from amused to empathetic.

One Instagram user jokingly commented: “Ah, I just witnessed that this morning with my 4-year-old when I asked her to put on her shoes to get out the door for playschool.”

Another added, “I really didn’t need to see this from her, but I guess it’s a good one if you’re under 3.”

However, not all responses mocked the woman. One user offered a more considerate perspective, “I was wondering if the underlying reason could be that there’s a possibility she’s autistic or has any disorder that could explain her tantrum or whatever. Not justifying her behavior, but maybe there’s much more context we had to understand. Anyway, there could also be a possibility that she’s just spoiled too, but no one knows nonetheless.”
