A bizarre scene unfolded when Pune residents were seen rushing to Pimpri’s Premlok Park area, where “holy water” was seen flowing out from the trunk of a gulmohar tree. The people there believed the water had “healing powers”, and many called it a “miracle tree”. However, the civic body later discovered that the phenomenon was caused by a leaking underground water pipeline.
According to Punekar News, the incident happened near the main road outside the Sahara Society between 7 pm and 11 pm on June 6. The video of the incident recorded by onlookers is now doing the rounds on the Internet and has drawn sharp criticism.
The viral clip shows people offering garlands and putting turmeric and vermilion on the tree’s trunk. Soon after the incident came to light, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) launched an investigation into the matter, following which they discovered the leaking pipe. “It’s not a miracle. An old water pipeline runs beneath the tree. Due to a leak, the water found an outlet through the hollow trunk,” Punekar News quoted Pravin Dhumal, Deputy Engineer, B Regional Office, as saying.
Sharing the video, an X user Satya wrote, “In the area of Pimpri Chinchwad, citizens began offering garlands, flowers, turmeric, and vermilion to a tree, worshipping it after seeing water coming from it. Later, some sensible citizens informed the municipal corporation about this, and during the investigation, it was revealed that a water pipeline had burst beneath the tree.”

The video quickly gained traction, sparking backlash, with one user saying, “If only we chased education, infrastructure, and healthcare with the same speed we chase miracles.” Another user commented, “2025 and we wonder why India isn’t progressing.”
“The height of superstition. India, which was known as the world teacher two thousand years ago; where there were so many philosophers, which are not found anywhere else in the world at one place, today it is sad to see its condition,” a third user reacted. “I am not surprised,” a fourth user chimed in.
