Former England captain Nasser Hussain has heaped praise on Shubman Gill’s captaincy after India’s 337-run win at Edgbaston. With the win, India have levelled the five-match Test series 1-1. The third Test of the series will be played at Lord’s, starting on Thursday.“I do think he was more visible,” Hussain told Sky Sports.“It’s very easy when you lose, you sort of blame the captain and say, oh, he went missing. And when you win, you go, oh, he’s a great captain.“But I do think, just watching from up above, which we often do in a commentary box—in the Headingley game, there was a lot of input from a lot of people.“It was like, who’s in charge? You look down today and he was in charge. And the camera often went on him and he was moving fielders around.“He still needs help from Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul or whoever. But he looked in charge,” he added.Hussain also pointed out the calm demeanor of Gill.“He’s always going to be calm and composed,” he said.“You just listen to that interview. He’s got a very low heartbeat. So he’s not going to be a Kohli-type character.“He’s got a low heartbeat, but that can help. You may need someone just to calm the team. He did some subtle things that we wouldn’t do.“Akash Deep had bowled beautifully from this end. This morning, we thought he was going to start from this end. He started him up the other end and it worked. So there were tactical things that he did in the game as well that really worked.“The most important thing: get runs. That’s his number one job and he’s got a shed load of runs.”
