Infosys fires employee arrested for filming female colleague in washroom

The electronic city police in Bengaluru have arrested a software professional at Infosys on charges of secretly filming a female colleague at a restroom on the campus.

The police have identified the accused as Swapnil Nagesh Mali, a native of Andhra Pradesh, working as a senior associate consultant at the software major.

The complainant, a senior professional, noticed an unusual reflection of an image on the opposite door while using the washroom on Monday morning. When she checked, she found someone filming her with his smartphone standing in the neighbouring restroom.

The youth repeatedly said sorry when the lady confronted him before running away. She, however, screamed and alerted her colleagues. Some of them caught him, and when the HR team checked his smartphone, they found a video clip of the complainant using the washroom.

The lady filed a complaint with the police on the advice of her husband, who felt the young man might do this to other women if they didn’t approach the police.

In a statement, Infosys said, “We are aware of this incident and have taken necessary action against the employee, who is now separated from the company. We also promptly supported the complainant by facilitating a swift complaint with the law enforcement authorities and continue to cooperate as they investigate further. Infosys is committed to providing an environment free of harassment and has a zero-tolerance policy. We take every complaint related to any violation of the company’s code of conduct seriously.”
