Former cricketer Shikhar Dhawan recently spoke about his diet and fitness, revealing how he has been gymming since he was 15-16. “I was 11 when I started training. Back then, we had to run 5 to 10 rounds and stand all day. I did that for many years. Then I learnt striding and everything. From the Delhi trainer, I learnt a lot about running. I started gymming from 15-16 years. So, I have been gymming for the past 24 years, continuously for 21 years,” Dhawan told Ranveer Allahabadia on the latter’s new chat show on YouTube.
Dhawan shared that he has always been “disciplined” about his diet. “I have reduced my calorie count. I am very focused. I try not to eat sweets. I don’t eat sweets. If I have to sacrifice, I have to. I want to maintain a good personality. I want to look good, so I will do it. I’ve always had a nutritionist. I think if you have no idea about diet, it is good to have a nutritionist,” Dhawan, 39, added.
Taking a cue from this exchange, let’s understand how crucial diet and fitness are to looking good and staying in shape.
When it comes to looking good and staying in shape, diet and fitness are game-changers. “What you eat every day doesn’t just affect your waistline—it impacts your energy, skin, mood, and even your confidence,” said Kanikka Malhotra, consultant dietitian and diabetes educator.
A customised and personalised diet routine provides your body with the necessary fuel to build muscle, burn fat, and maintain overall health. “Pair that with regular exercise, and you’re not just working towards a toned body—you’re also boosting your mood, sleeping better, and feeling more vibrant overall,” said Malhotra.

But let’s be honest, that’s easier said than done. Figuring out what to eat and how to stick to a plan can be overwhelming.
“That’s where a qualified dietician comes in. Think of a dietician as your nutrition buddy on this journey. They take the time to understand your lifestyle, preferences, and any health concerns you might have. Then, they create a meal plan that actually fits your life—not some one-size-fits-all diet,” stressed Malhotra.

A nutrition expert helps you make smarter yet tasty food choices, helps with good food habits, avoids common pitfalls, and stays motivated, even when things get tough. “They’re there to answer questions, tweak your plan as you go, and celebrate your progress. The result? You don’t just look good—you feel good, too. With the right support and a plan tailored just for you, staying in shape becomes much more achievable and enjoyable,” said Malhotra.
