Top 10 hottest cities in India in 2025: Delhi under red alert, but this city is breaking records

India369stories

As northern India reels under an unforgiving heatwave, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Delhi, warning of dangerously high temperatures across the capital. Parts of Delhi have already seen the mercury shoot up to 45.5°C, with no immediate respite expected over the next two days. Relief may arrive around June 13 night and June 14, thanks to western disturbances that could bring light showers, according to IMD forecasts.

But here’s the surprising part – Delhi isn’t the hottest city in India right now.

According to data from AQI India, the title of India’s hottest city this June belongs to Jalandhar, where the temperature has touched a staggering 48°C. Close behind are several other northern cities where thermometers are near the 47°C mark.

As of June 11, 2025, India dominates the list of the world’s hottest places, with 24 of the top 25 hottest cities globally coming from India. Only Al Hufuf in Saudi Arabia has made it to the list with a temperature of 46°C, barely making a dent in India’s heatwave dominance.

Meanwhile, temperatures across other major Indian cities range widely. While Delhi leads among metros with 43°C, cities like Ahmedabad (38°C), Chennai (35°C), and Kolkata (33°C) sit mid-range. Bengaluru, as usual, offers some respite with a relatively pleasant 27°C, making it the coolest among India’s major urban centers.

Festive offer

With the heat showing no signs of slowing and the IMD’s red alert in force, much of northern India will be counting down the days to those predicted showers.
