Wild elephant invades picnic spot, netizens slam irresponsible tourism: ‘It’s the elephant’s home, not ours’

A relaxing riverside picnic quickly turned into chaos when a wild elephant suddenly wandered into the area, startling visitors who had been enjoying their day cooking by the scenic banks.

In a video shared by IFS officer Parveen Kaswan on X, the peaceful outing is seen descending into panic as people run in all directions, leaving behind their food and belongings. Amid the commotion, a woman can be heard desperately shouting, “Don’t run!” as the elephant charges through the site, chasing a few individuals before eventually crossing the stream and disappearing into the nearby forest.

Sharing the clip, Kaswan used the moment to send out a pointed warning about the dangers of setting up camp in areas that are natural corridors for wildlife. “Tell me whose mistake it is,” he wrote. “Why choose a location for a picnic where elephants usually move? In search of beautiful locations, please don’t put life in danger.”

The incident has reignited a conversation about responsible tourism and the ongoing issue of human-wildlife conflict, especially in regions that see frequent elephant movement.

As the video spread online, many echoed Kaswan’s concern. “It’s the home of an elephant. Not a place for humans,” one user wrote. “How will a person feel if an elephant infringed on his home?” Another person said, “Poor chap only shooed away people encroaching his territory. No violence.” A third user commented, “I totally agree with you Mr Kaswan, but humans egoistically believe they are the lords of the earth.”

Festive offer

Others also questioned why stricter regulations aren’t enforced in such sensitive wildlife areas to prevent similar incidents in the future.
